The castle of Maniban belonged to John Guy of Maniban at the XVII century then to his son, Gaspard of Maniban to the XVIII century, both of them Presidents of the Parliament of Toulouse. At the death of Gaspard of Maniban, this is his girl, Mary Christine of Maniban that takes back the properties around 1762. Between time, she had married the Marquis of Livry, first master of hotel of Louis XV. This position permit him to make taste the king Louis XV the Armagnac that entered thus to the Court of France.
Living in the Court of France in Versailles, she returned nevertheless all the summers in its two properties in the Gers area. She had a special affection for the one of Mauleon d’ Armagnac in the Bas Armagnac, cradle of his family and property of 3000 hectares going at that time from the area of Cazaubon to The Bastide d’ Armagnac where a street carries the name of the Maniban. (It is necessary to recall that in the Bastide, Henri IV possessed a house that inspired him for the construction of the Place des Vosges in Paris.)
The Marquise of Livry followed closely its numerous and vast hectares of plant of vines and had decide one year, in front of the wine overproduction, to construct in a hurry some tanks that she burried after. Later, not more being able to manage the numerous and vast domains that belonged to her, and notably its property of Armagnac, the Castle of Maniban located in Mauléon d’Armagnac and its property surroundings were taken back by its cousins Campistron of Maniban. Today the domain of Maniban belongs to the family Castarede, settled in the Armagnac since centuries.
The Maniban carried the following coat of arms :
- Two bumblebees of golden pilgrim( sticks used by pilgrims for the pilgrimage of Holy Jacques de Compostelle)
- A silver crescent
- Three tears of silver.
